Red Cedar Zen Community, 1021 N Forest, Bellingham Washington

About Red Cedar

Founded in 1991, Red Cedar Zen Community (formerly known as Bellingham Zen Practice Group) is a Soto Zen practice community in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki-roshi, author of Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind. We are affiliated with The Everyday Zen Foundation and EDZ founder Zoketsu Norman Fischer of Muir Beach, California, is our guiding teacher. Zoketsu comes to the Bellingham and Vancouver area four times a year to lead retreats and sesshin.

The Community’s Spiritual Director is Zen priest Nomon Tim Burnett. Tim has been practicing Zen for twenty-five years and received Dharma Transmission from Norman in July, 2011.

The community is also blessed with a lay teacher, Seishu John Wiley.

Our three local teachers lead retreats, workshops, and classes, and are available to Sangha members for private practice discussion at all sangha meditation events in Bellingham. Our teachers are also glad to speak to your class or club about Zen Buddhism.

Tim is also available to conduct weddings, funerals, and blessing ceremonies and for private spiritual guidance meetings.

The Dharma Hall

The Red Cedar Zen Community are the stewards of a shared center for meditation, mindfulness, and peace called the Red Cedar Dharma Hall. The center is available to other like minded groups for event rental or ongoing use. Per hour and membership rates are available. The Hall is quiet, warm and accessible to all. See the Red Cedar Dharma Hall website for more information.

Thank you for visiting our site. We invite you to join us in unfolding the Buddha Way as it runs through every moment of our lives.
