A full day hike to open the mountains to practice.

Join us for a meditation hike to Skyline Divide - our first mindful foray into the deep mountains to open the season.

Hike to Skyline Divide.  This popular local destination, a beautiful subalpine ridge partially covered in early season snowfields and avalanche lilies, will be our place of Opening the Mountains for the beginning of our ritual hiking season.

This hike, inspired by traditions on Tibetan sacred mountains where the first ritual circuit of the season was performed by priests waking up the mountain deities, will be a 6 mile round trip with about a 1500’ elevation gain.

The trail can be muddy at this time of the year, and be prepared with gaitors for snow in the upper portions.  Although there will be snow at this season there will also be clear areas on the ridge.

And early start is essential to have sufficient daylight to complete this hike at a modest pace. Meet at the Dharma Hall for carpooling at 8:30am or at Nugent's Corner at 9:00am. To make a very full day consider joining the zendo practice at 6:00am.

To come on this hike please RSVP with the registration form. Click the "Register" button to the left to start the process. There will be an opportunity during registration to make a dana offering if you choose (details on Dana Paramita here) and you may also make a dana offering at any time on the Dana page. Unlike our "indoor" retreats dana is not generally collected during the event.
