Who was Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, author of “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind,” and the founding teacher of San Francisco Zen Center?

What is his teaching that continues to inspire eight decades later?

Meet him and explore questions of why he was such an influential teacher. We will look the major themes in his teaching, which are both straight from the heart of Dogen’s Zen and unique to his understanding and encounter with the West.

5 Mondays 7:00pm - 8:30pm evenings classes from July 2nd through August 6th (skipping July 30th).. There will be lecture, Q&A, and small group and some exercises. Plan on some readings between classes.

Please review this Bibliography for the class and consider starting to read before the class starts.

Ryushin Andrea Thach, a long time student of one of Suzuki Roshi’s early disciples, Sojun Mel Weitsman, will lead. Dana for the teaching is discretionary.
