YEP - this year on Zoom. See below for preparation before we being.

Come join us for our most popular annual event: ringing in the New Year with 108 rings on the temple bell, a fire/purification ceremony, meditation and chanting. Bring forward your intentions for what to let go of in your life, and enjoy an evening with sangha in ritual and connection.

Schedule:

7:00pm Zazen
7:30pm Kinhin
7:40pm Zazen
8:10pm New Year's Ceremony
Approx 10:00pm close

Zoom-Based Ceremony Preparation:

  1. Bowing Space - ideally in view of your camera: a place to do deep bows. Those who are able to encouraged to do full prostrations to the floor.
  2. Bell - have a bell ready, over Zoom higher pitched bells work better. We'll each take turns un-muting and ringing three times slowly as the rest of the assembly does a prostration with each ring.
  3. Piece of Paper (and pen) - we'll each write down on a slip of paper a quality we want to release from or a change we hope to focus on, in this new year.
  4. Safe Burning Spot - prepare a spot to safely burn your piece of paper and have matches or a lighter handy
  5. (Optional) A Celebratory Snack - whatever food that is for you. There will be some Zoom social time (we'll make it work) after the ceremony.

Donations to support Red Cedar of any amount are welcome.
