The Zen ceremony of priest ordination called shukke tokudo (literally "leaving home, attaining the way") is a ceremony of deep commitment to the Zen precepts, the Zen path, and the sangha. The student makes a lifetime commitment to put the practice first in their lives.
Please come sit with and support Daikan John Green as he takes this step.
The ceremony will be on Zoom as well, but the WiFi there is spotty.
Sesshin: The ceremony will take place during our annual sesshin. You do not have to be be a sesshin participant to attend, but please be mindful of those at the retreat center, as they are near the end of their eight day silent retreat. Please observe silence and social distancing.
Parking: Parking will be in the grass field on the right after entering the retreat property.
Covid testing required: Two Covid rapid tests will be required to attend the ceremony. Please perform a Covid rapid test on Saturday and bring the results with you. A second Covid rapid test will be required upon arrival to the retreat property and will be performed in the dining room at the main lodge (building with the bell on top).
Ceremony: The ceremony will be held in the Fellowship Center/Gym, about 300 feet east of the main lodge. It will last approximately 45 minutes. Chairs will be available, bring sitting cushions if you prefer to sit on the floor. A short reception will be held in the main lodge dining room immediately after the ceremony.
