Join Kanho Chris Burkhart for an exploration of the Lankavatara Sutra.
It is said that the Lankavatara Sutra was the one book Bodhidharma brought with him when he came to China. Translated, the title means The Sutra on the Descent of the True Dharma into Laṅkā, the heart of the words of all the Buddhas. And it was the one book Bodhidharma gave to his dharma heir Huike along with the traditional bowl and robe.
"Because bodhisattvas who dwell in suchness reach the realm that is free from projections, they reach the bodhisattvas stage of joy." - the Lankavatra Sutra
During the class we will investigate short passages of this early Mahayana sutra selected by Kanho Chris (passages will be provided). Themes include the historical setting of the sutra, Mind-Only, projections, Yogacara, store-house consciousness, and three natures as presented in the sutra. The Lankavatara is mosaic collection of small parts within the frame of a sutra.
We will also investigate the impact of these teachings on how we perceive and interact with the world.
Schedule: Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm - 8:00pm from March 5th to April 9th.
Location: Online in our Zoom Zendo.
