In this year's Jukai we expect eight Red Cedar members will receive the precepts from Nomon Tim Burnett and Kanhō Chris Burkhart. Our 2025 jukai recipients include David Clark, Heather Cunningham, Ariel Paulenich, Colin Goggin, Kandis Susol, Aidan Fay, and Jeff McKenna.
This year's ceremony is part of our 3 day residential sesshin at Samish Island Retreat Center. If you are registered for sesshin you do not need to register separately for Jukai. Jukai guests please register in this event.
Arrive early to park and walk across the grounds to the zendo (largest building to the east) in time for the 11:00 am ceremony start.
Ceremony will be followed by a potluck lunch, please bring something to add to the grain & soup our kitchen crew will provide.
The Jukai ceremony will also be available on Zoom.
About Jukai:
The Zen ceremony of Jukai (literally "receiving precepts") is a ceremony of commitment to the Zen precepts, the Zen path, and the sangha. Done by lay students it marks a deepening of commitment to Zen and a warming of relationship with the teacher. See Precepts and Jukai on the website for background on this important process.
Red Cedar Zen Community is a 501(c) non-profit organization.
