New Business:

Proposed Budget for 2017: The Board examined the Finance Committee’s 2017 budget proposal. Samish camp sesshin fees are increasing this year. The budget reflects the following: a 10% increase in cost for the Samish Island retreat; a 3% increase in utilities, and an increase in Tim’s housing allowance. The 2016 Annual Appeal collected less than in the past. Overall the, budget shows revenues exceeding expenses by $5,310 and provides a 6% margin for 2017. http://www.redcedarzen.org/resources/Documents/finance/RedCedarBudget2017_v06.pdf

The Board approved the budget, which is posted on the website and will be available at the annual meeting in February.

Discussion of the budget included ideas for increasing revenues: raising the rates for use of the building; increasing number of renters; the possibility of an increase in membership dues.

The board discussed changing the approach of the Annual Appeal or moving it to a less demanding time of year that would also be suitable to the Buddhist calendar--maybe April or May, Buddha’s birthday.

2. Annual Meeting: This year’s annual meeting is Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The agenda includes: Volunteer Appreciation; Membership Report; Financial

Report; Tim’s Contract and letter to the sangha from Norman Fischer.

Next Board Meeting: February 17, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the Co-op

respectfully submitted, Anne Mikkelsen
