Sesshin (silent Zen meditation retreat) is an opportunity to settle deeply into practice.
The day begins early, as is traditional in Zen training, and includes periods of sitting meditation (zazen), walking meditation (kinhin), the morning service ritual, two silent breakfast and lunch (oryoki style), a Dharma talk, opportunity for a private interview with the teachers (dokusan), and a question and answer time that’s especially helpful for newer sitters.
The day of practice is also available online via Zoom.
Schedule: The One Day Sit schedule runs from 7:00am to 5:00pm with a vegetarian breakfast and lunch provided.
This One Day Sesshin is a part of the Fall 2026 Practice Period and may also be attended separately. It replaces our regular Sunday morning program on that day.
Registration: Registration is required.
Oryoki Meals: You will need a 3-bowl Oryoki set. Instruction on Oryoki eating will be provided, no problem if you've never eaten oryoki before. You can purchase a set from our friends at Still Sitting (please order the Navy Blue cloths). Red Cedar Zen is not able to provide loaner oryoki sets.
Red Cedar Zen Community is a 501(c) non-profit organization.
